Health and Safety

Potential danger

How the problem can be avoided

Illness

n/a
|
This cannot be avoided, it will just put back time, therefore if I am ill, I will have to work extra hard over the next few days to catch up
|
Wire used for the structure of the characters
|
The wire is sharp and could potentially cut the skin
|
The wire will be placed somewhere where it cannot pierce the skin, and when it is in use I will make sure that it does not face me and I will not hold the ends, only the sides.
|
Tripping
|
Tripod
|
The legs of the tripod stick out, and could either cause someone to trip over or the camera and the tripod could fall and break, there isn't an exact way to resolve this from occurring, just to be very careful when standing near the tripod

17/11/15- Today I started to paint my set
20/11/15- I continued to paint my scenes and started filming
24/11/15- I started to draw out the mouths for my characters and began editing the images that I already have
26/11/15- I recorded my sounds for my mouth movements
29/11/15- I will finish filming my last scenes, and I will get my Dad to narrate my animation.
30/11/15- I have finished my animation, now I will upload my animation to youtube

Contingency Plan
There are several things that could potentially go wrong during or after this production. I have to make sure that I can avoid problems occurring and making sure I always have a plan B so my animation will still run smoothly.
My initial plan was to create a Claymation Stop Motion Animation, based on my third concept. I attempted to use a green screen however, During the filming I realised that I would much prefer a background which could be present in the filming and I thought that it would be too time consuming to edit thousands of photographs together with the same background.
I have had to consider that the Characters may break or fall apart during the filming, therefore if this does happen I will need to replace them so they do not disfigure, I will create extra body parts and heads incase this happens.
The camera battery may also run out, therefore as I have two batteries I am going to charge them both fully, so they can be replaced when one runs out, as well as having my charger at the ready.

Primary Research
Primary Research-
Questionnaire- https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KWQQMYZ
My responses support my ideas, and it has helped me to come to a conclusion about my what I would like to base my stop motion on. My first question was about what style of stop motion would interest my audience the most? Over 65% said Claymation and the rest said people.
My second question was what genre is most preferred? 50% said comedy where the over 30% stated that horror/thriller was their favourite and the rest said romance. I would like to base my animation on a horror animation. The results have proven to me that horror isn’t my audiences’ favourite genre but it is still an interest to them.
My third question was based around the sound, half of my audience stated ‘other’, and responded that all three of the sounds above should be used to make an animation good. This was exactly what I had hoped for as I had all intentions to make an animation with the use of all three sounds.
My fourth question was a rhetorical question, which I wanted personal answers for, after reading through my responses I now know what to do in my animation to make it good and interesting for my viewers.
The last question was specifically based around my third concept. The result has proven to me that everyone would be interested in a Halloween style animation, and therefore this is what I will be doing my animation on.

Casper and Norman
Casper- I can’t wait to get some sweets
Norman- me too Casper
Casper- come on Norman, lets go trick or treating
Norman-Okay, I'm excited
Knock knock- only show the bottom half of the other characters
Trick or treat!!
The boys knocked on the first door. A tall old lady
answered the door. Oh hello boys, you scared me a bit there. Take a few sweets
my children.
Thank you Mrs. Peters, said Norman.
Enjoy yourselves and don’t go scaring any more old
ladies tonight.
She was really scary, wasn’t she Norman? Questioned
Casper.
Yeah! Why was she so tall, replied Norman?
Trick or treat!!
Boo! Help yourselves boys, before all the
other children get their mucky little paws on them.
Thank you for the sweets Mr. Draco, said
Casper.
You’re very welcome boys, now run along.
The boys argued whose turn it was to knock
next as the walked towards the house at the end of the street.
Trick or treat!!
This was no ordinary neighbour. We are all
changing, my children. Turn around murmured the skeleton. The boys were shaking
in their boots. I want to go home Casper, Norman whispered.
Casper and Norman scare fully walked home.
They knocked on Normans door. Normans
mother answered the door, but she had become a skeleton too, in fact the whole
family had, as had the entire street. Norman turned to look at Casper, but he
had already gone, Casper was not real, and neither was this story. This was
just a nightmare which Norman created in his sleep.
Secondary Research
Secondary Research- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFI7_tAgm4 This video really stood out to me and has inspired me. It looks very professional and the creator has made it look very easy to make, I would like to make my animation in the same way, with the wire and the clay. I am going to attempt to make mouth movements too.
After watching several animations that have already been produced, I have decided that I will be making my animation out of polymer clay and wire structures, this is what was used to make Wallace and Gromit and creature comforts etc. I have previously worked with this material and I found it easy to work with and easy to modify for each individual shot. Despite this, it was quite fiddly and the clay got stuck to my hands a lot, which was quite an undesirable feelings. This does not change my mind however, I think the end results look great and it is fun to make.
After finding out what my friends and family would be interested in, I will be making my animation based on my idea 3. I have found out that my audience would be interested in an animation about Halloween as it fits the season nicely too. I will have background sounds, narration and dialogue too. I will be recording the sounds myself, apart from the instrumental sounds, I will find out if I have permission to use an eerie soundtrack. I will also use a green screen, as I like the appearance of realistic scenes and cartoon characters.
Three Concepts
Idea 1- two identical twins are invited to a party, one of the siblings has a boyfriend, although a deluded friend decides to lock the sibling with a boyfriend in a closet, when the sister and her sisters boyfriend are downstairs drinking, the boyfriend quickly comes on to what he thinks is his girlfriend.
Idea 2- a young boy was desperate for friends, he found a five pound note in his pocket and wrote his number on the note with a instructions saying- ring me, occasionally people would ring and would talk to him about what they were spending the fiver on.
Idea 3- two boys decided to go trick or treating for Halloween, they dress up and take a pot for their sweets, as they knock on the doors around their house, their neighbours were willing give them both a handful of sweets. After the third door, a skeleton answers the door, and tells the boys that everyone is changing, losing their skin and guts, the boys just laughed and assumed he was playing a trick on them, the man told the boys to turn around and look at the neighbourhood, everyone was the same, the boys ran home, one of the boys mothers answered the door, but she had changed too, everyone had changed apart from the boys friend, who was in fact the only normal looking one, but he wasn’t real.
Final Idea
I will be making a Claymation animation, in the style of Aardman Animations, as I am inspired by their work. As it is October 2015, I will be producing an animation with the genre of horror for the Halloween season. I will be making my animation out of Polymer clay.
I will not be holding my camera during the filming of this production, I will use a tripod and I will take the photographs as and when I need to, this will benefit me as I will be filming and producing this animation on my own therefore I will not be able to hold the camera and move the characters around, whilst remembering where I last had the camera placed.
My animation will be targeted at a young demographic, despite it being horror themed it will not be frightening to the point where it will terrify the children.
